When Nintendo announced that the Wii U’s most distinctive feature would be a tablet controller, Microsoft said, “We can do that.” They set about designing a tablet app that could communicate with an Xbox, and released My Xbox Live. It has just received a significant update that gives it more functionality and renames it Xbox SmartGlass. You can download it here on the App Store.
Not many games use SmartGlass yet, but that will presumably change in the future. The hope is that you’ll be able to use your tablet to do things like select plays in sports games, or to view a map of the environment in a shooter or RPG. For now, you can use SmartGlass to navigate your Xbox’s menu screens, type in text fields, and control media on the screen. It remains to be seen whether it will ever become as functional as the Wii U’s tablet controller. Watch the video below for more details.
