When it comes to retro games, iPhone developer Peter Hirschberg’s got cred. Not only did he put Adventure on the App Store for free, he also runs his own private 60-machine home arcade! Hirschberg’s latest project is very much in the same vein of awesomeness: an iPhone shoot ’em up called Vector Tanks.
If you enjoy early 3D shooters like Spectre, Faceball 2000, and Battlezone, Vector Tanks looks like it will be right up your alley. Kotaku and Touch Arcade report that the game will feature virtual tank controls (one touch “stick” on either side of the iPhone’s screen), in addition to the following vehicles and features:
- Land mines
- More powerups
- Multiple tank models with the graphics based on real-life tanks
- Different enemy capabilities and behaviors per tank model
- High score table
- Obstacles that you can interact with to your advantage or disadvantage (like stacked blocks that can topple on you)
We believe in Mr. Hirschberg, and we are very excited to see how this one turns out. The game should be available in the next week or so for $1-2.
