Square-Enix and GREE are teaming up to develop and release a new entry in the The World Ends With You (TWEWY) universe. From this angle, it looks like The World Ends With You: Live Remix is a mobile exclusive that runs off GREE’s social gaming platform. In other words, if you were hoping that the first follow-up to the original TWEWY would hit the Nintendo 3DS, your world may well be ending.
Details about TWEWY: Live Remix are few and far between at this point. The game reportedly takes place in a world that lies parallel to the Shibuya we explored in the first TWEWY, and a new navigator will guide you through the experience.
Going by the available screenshots, the gameplay for TWEWY: Live Remix appears to be as action-oriented as the first game’s mechanics, but we won’t know for sure until we see more from Square-Enix and/or GREE. Besides, as IGN points out, GREE’s adaptations of big-name franchises typically modify gameplay. Consider Assassin’s Creed Utopia, an upcoming iOS project from Ubisoft/GREE that includes town-building elements.
TWEWY: Live Remix comes to Japan this winter. No word yet on an English-language release, but we’ll update with any new info that makes its way to the scramble crossing.
