Superb platformer controls; fun gameplay; great art and music
Very short with no replay value
Pizza Boy may be short, but it kept us entertained the whole way through.

Touch screen controls are rarely on par with the precision offered by tactile gamepads. Platformer games, because they require such precision, are especially likely to suffer this problem on the iPhone. Well, developer Acne Play has managed to craft remarkably near-perfect controls for their new game Pizza Boy. Even though it may be a short game, we enjoyed every second we had with it.

You play as a square-bearded delivery man version of Mario who must retrieve a pizza pie stolen from him by a devious bird. This quest will take you across 12 levels set in different parts of the city. You’ll need to run, jump, and throw soda bottles at enemies in order to get back the stolen pizza.

Hey, no sleeping on the job!

The levels of Pizza Boy are designed with just the right amount of difficulty that they require an increasing amount of skill but are always beatable. Unfortunately, the game only lasts about 45 minutes.

And when you complete Pizza Boy, there is almost no reason to go back and play it again, unless you're bent on beating your own personal scores. There are no leaderboards, so you can't compete against anyone else. On the plus side, the game sports an attractive pixel art style and an upbeat chiptune soundtrack.

Despite its length issue, Pizza Boy is one of the better iPhone platformers out there. If you've tackled Soosiz and are hungry for more head-stomping, be sure to check it out.
