Mazes with a goal; fun to watch pictures come to life; level editor
Can’t share custom levels; very easy
Although very easy, you’ll have a hard time putting this personality-rich maze game down.

Pix Maze is the PathPix Pro of mazes. The ultimate goal is not only to complete the maze but also to create an image in doing so. This makes for a rewarding game we a hard time putting down.

You play as a scarab that is able to paint the mazes he traverses after stepping over paint blotches scattered throughout. As you make your way through the maze, a picture will begin to unfold. After reaching the end, it comes to life in a cartoon-esque animation.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

There are 72 unique mazes spread across three sizes, although only a few fall into the larger one. Still, there is plenty of content to last you plenty long, especially since the asking price is low at $1.99. Activision also threw in an easy-to-use level editor where you create a picture by filling in a grid and the engine randomly builds a maze around it. Unfortunately, you can only make small and medium images and they can’t be shared with others.

A problem for many will be how easy the game is. If you begin to go down the wrong path, a big X will appear. This makes the game feel very straightforward and too forgiving.

We still found Pix Maze to be a blast. It works great on both the iPhone and iPad, with much better production values than meet the eye when you look at the screenshots. If you have younger kids or a need to scratch an itch for a unique maze game, look no further.
