Infinity Blade Screenshots Released

News Posted by Chris Reed, November 2nd, 2010

Remember that gorgeous action RPG code-named Project Sword that Epic showed off at Apple's press event in September? Well, they just sent out some new screenshots and details about the game. It's now officially called Infinity Blade, and it will be released for the iPhone and iPad "this holiday season."

According to Epic, Infinity Blade will be the first game released to use the Unreal Engine 3, so tamp down your hopes of seeing anything use it earlier. The game will feature the usual RPG stuff, like sword fighting, experience building, item collecting, and stat tweaking. It takes place in a presumably larger version of the castle environment found in Epic Citadel. From the sound of it, the game will be released as a single-player only affair, and will be updated later to include multiplayer via Game Center. We also learned that the final boss is (rather intimidatingly) called the God-King.

We were hoping for a little more variety from the screenshots; but on the other hand, maybe we could use them to make the world's shortest flip book? The screens depict a ginormous beast battling a comparatively puny knight, and the graphics are as gorgeous as they ever were. We'll keep you posted as we hear more about Infinity Blade. In the meantime, enjoy the eye candy.

Those screenshots look like they're from a console game. I still can't imagine a game looking this good on my iPod. I guess I'll just have to try it and see for myself. And no, I haven't tried Epic Citadel, it won't run on my 2nd gen touch. I'm hoping to get a 4th gen for Christmas.

@birdman well, i can tell you it does look that good on a 3GS, 4 and ipad. it's not Unreal lite.. it's the full engine.. the same one on the consoles. stunning.

here are some unmodified screen grabs from an iphone4 (increment the file names 41-45) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2482894/Epic/IMG_0041.PNG (#5 looks like a photo) look at the ground. hard to see the textures repeat (tile).
