When you hear a game title like Corporate Fury, you wouldn't be alone in associating it with general chaos of our fragile financial system. After all, several companies cashed in on the whole calamity by basing whole games around the Wall Street bailouts. Swinecrafters, the creators of Corporate Fury, had different plans altogether. Their effort is so bizarre and weird that it'll definitely garner strong feelings. Whether those feelings are positive or negative depends on the eye of the beholder. Never ones to mince words, we're always happy to cut through the hype and share what's real.
The drama is set in a futuristic world full of corporate suits looking to get ahead. Instead of climbing the corporate ladder by good ol’ fashioned hard work and ass-kissing, Corporate Fury does things differently. You start the game as a child that watches your Dad get brutally slaughtered by his coworker. Dad's murderer sits on top of the corporate hierarchy in the game, and he represents the head guy that you'll need to conquer at the end of the adventure.

The first squared circle atop a skyscraper.
Corporate Fury has gameplay that attempts to combine tenets of action-adventure and RPG games. RPG elements reveal themselves through the overworld you'll have to traverse and the extensive story laid out in cutscenes. In between the story segments, you'll be fighting in battlegrounds to build your experience and take down coworkers with more pull. This all sounds great and original on paper, but the execution of the entire package is clumsy.
Unresponsive controls permeate every area of the game. Controlling your character feels like navigating a rusty military tank. Running around the game world is slow and imprecise. Fighting doesn't feel especially great either. Combat quickly devolves into unsatisfying button-mashing. Another problem we noticed is the AI balancing being off. Before you can beat the characters needed to progress the storyline, you have to fight many throwaway bouts to earn credits to upgrade your fighter. We consistently went into bouts being way underpowered, and these skill gaps strikes us as cheap attempt to lengthen the game. If the fighting was fun, we could talk ourselves into overlooking the grinding, but it's not.

Rotten Pig is the classiest place in town.
The story here stands out for its purposeful absurdity. Some of the conversations and comments will make you laugh out loud. You'll see characters crack jokes, curse each other out, and talk about random things like sexually transmitted diseases. While the delivery of the story is fairly clinical and typical, the effectiveness of the writing still stands strong. Whether we were talking to a main character of an NPC, we were genuinely interested in reading all the ridiculous dialogue. If you can somehow stomach the below average gameplay, there's a unique tale underneath Corporate Fury.
While looks and sounds don't define a game, Corporate Fury is horrible in these areas. The art style is bland, with environments that make trudging around a snorefest. People are animated poorly, and the fighting is full of choppy frame skips. Without a morsel of hyperbole, the generic rock soundtrack in this game is one of the worst we've heard all year. The sound effects are just as bad. For example, female characters scream like men. Seriously.
One thing is certain about Corporate Fury. The team at Swinecrafters put a ton of energy into making something unique and different. They succeeded in those goals, but the game has so many issues that it’s hard to see this one being salvageable by updates or patches. Besides a hilarious story, we can't recommend this game at all. Save your money folks; this piece of swine is completely inedible.

I actually enjoyed the hell out of this game, it's hardly a "1" compared to the glut of crap on the app store. If this is a "1" then all the Doodlejump clones must be a -5 eh?
ohh i was on the fence whether i should buy it or not, but know i know.
thx for the review and saving me 1.99.
Rough review! I trust Shawn though, he has written nearly 100 articles for us, mostly reviews. He knows how to tell a good game from bad.
I back Andrew on this. Also, the review is pretty accurate.
This app is love or hate it seems.
This is not a 1. The controls are a little awkward, but not bad. Fighting is a blast and there's a ton of loot to go through and find. Framerate it good and graphics are ok.
I'd give it a 3.
ah lads!
I guess I agree with gucci mane, I'm in love with this game yet you and pocket gamer were pretty rough on it.
oh well
Are you serious? "bland graphics"? Last year, you would have said that the graphics are great!
Sorry csklimowksi, we call it like it is.
If you are enjoying Corporate Fury, don't let our review spoil your fun!
I was in no way implying that this is a good game, but I find it hard to call these "bland graphics". They could definitely use better animation, but the detail is great for a developer this small. Even if this is the worst game ever, you need to appreciate the effort that went inti making it look good.
Notice the qualifier you used, "for a developer this small." it doesn't matter if the game was developed by one guy or a huge dev like Gameloft, if a game looks terrible, it looks terrible. I respect your opinion though, we just see things very differently.
There's going to be a ton of people who will almost completely disagree with this review, and rightfully so. Me and my friends love it. The game is awesome, good and fun gameplay and nice game art. This game is hardly a 1 rating...you guys have given a lot of real horrible games a 2, putting this at 1 seems really off. Oh well, it's all subjective...glad I take a lot of reviews with a grain of salt, this one especially.
I agree with this one. Wouldn't be so hard on the music though. The graphics and environs lack style, feeling like neon soaked scraps from the cutting room floor of UT99 and Deus Ex. But they get the job done.
Combat is just dull, though. Uninteresting grinding. Annoying world map treks. And combat that is just an endless string of dialing in the longest juggle combo you can. Wish you guys had done this review BEFORE I bought it.
" Notice the qualifier you used, "for a developer this small." it doesn't matter if the game was developed by one guy or a huge dev like Gameloft, if a game looks terrible, it looks terrible. I respect your opinion though, we just see things very differently. " That's completely ridiculous, you have to tailor your expectations. And even if you don't like something doesn't mean you cant appreciate the effort.
I'd argue that most casual gamers (e.g. the vast majority of iPhone and iPod Touch owners) have no idea who the developers are on the games they purchase. They simply want to have a great experience. In MY view, this game fails in delivering that for the plethora of reasons described in my review.
FWIW, I gave kudos to the developers for the game's quirks throughout my review. The execution of the total package was the problem.
There may be some issues, but you didn't even mention that the dev is taking down everyone's complaints and suggestions. As with all iphone/touch/pad games they update constantly, so when they fix the above issues, I hope you will change your review. Until then, I suggest everyone check out the trailer for it and read some of the reviews from actual players rather than someone paid to review apps fwi.
We're pretty good about doing updated reviews once developers patch their games. Our scores aren't influenced by what a dev/publisher says will be fixed down the road though. When the patches are in, we'll take another look.
Trust me, it's never fun taking a poor game to task, but I don't have a problem doing it when necessary. Slide To Play isn't some monolithic entity where we all have the same views on everything. If you want boilerplate consensus as your content, there are other options for you. If you want real opinions, you'll find them here!
yeah well this isn't exactly a very trustworthy site for reviews. Way too many reviews here I very much disagree with (including this review). It's best to go to Touch Arcade for the best "real opinions", I'll find them there instead.
Ya I couldn't agree more with karma32, I was just saying that people shouldn't just jump to the conclusion based on this biased review when there are a host of others, (sadly alot of lazy reviewers are just linking to this review unfortunately) I just read all 54 pages of the forum board raving about this game and I couldn't agree more with their response.
I would also like to say that this has to be one of the most friendly and generous dev I have ever come across. I mean this game has evolved so much from the original, yet not a mention of that was made in the review. Perhaps you just jumped on the 1.5 version, that still should have been taken into account that 5 versions have been passed and great improvements have been made.
The future seems quite bright with the options of new weapons and possible game center update in the future. Ok I think I am done here now. Don't get me wrong either, I agree with alot of the reviews here, just was shocked and amazed at the response to this cult classic is how i see it going down as. It may not be everyone's cup up tea, but that doesn't give a reason to trash it like was done. Even the witty response to the humor was briefly mentioned and totally destroyed at the end, but that's just my opinion. Last thing that I would like to say is that anyone who likes game such as Half Life/Quake and Devil May Cry will fall in love with this game, that's for certain.
What a terrible inaccurate review.
This is one of my favorites and this review is an absolute joke
You gave Hybrid 2 a "must have" score when it's framerate was unstable and there were a lot of bugs that it wasn't appealing to play it anymore then you gave this game a 1? Wow, STP.
Shawn, can we request reviews?? I was wondering why you still haven't done a review of Crimson Gem Saga, a critically acclaimed PSP title and hands down the best RPG on iOS?? It hit the AppStore months ago now. Also could you review "Last Front: Europe". Thanks.
