Broken Sword: The Director's Cut Announced, Hitting App Store Soon

News Posted by Andrew Groen, January 12th, 2010

From the company that brought us the superlative iPhone adventure Beneath a Steel Sky: Remastered several months ago comes the announcement that their upcoming game will be very similar. Broken Sword: The Director's Cut is also going to be a remastered version of a classic adventure experience.

Revolution Software announced that the core gameplay will remain the same. However, Broken Sword: The Director's Cut will have a bit of an upgraded look as well as all-new cutscenes.

"We're particularly excited to be introducing the game to a whole new audience," said Charles Cecil, managing director of Revolution Software, in a press release. "I am confident that the quality of the original adventure coupled with significant updates and new assets will ensure that the game appeals both to new players as well as those that played the original first time around."

Back in October when their first title Beneath a Steel Sky: Remastered was released we awarded it our coveted Game of the Month award, so we've been eagerly awaiting news on what the future will hold for Revolution.

Clearly there's no shortage of classic PC adventure games to be remastered on the iPhone. Which adventure games would you like to see remade? Let us know in the comments. We're desperately hoping for a Grim Fandango iPhone version.

I'd LOVE to see Grim Fandango, but any of the QFG or Sierra series would suffice.

Besides all the Lucasarts games, I want to see a weird little adventure game based on a Harlan Ellison story, called I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream.

That game has come up a few times lately. Maybe it's primed for a comeback!

The original Broken Sword (or Circle of Blood as it was oddly called in the US), was one of the best adventure games of its era. Top notch animation, with an interesting Dan Brownish story (or maybe should say Dan Brown is very Broken Swordish as it was first) and pretty good actors.

I think the following 3 games slowly decreased in quality with each game, but the first one is a real must-have for any adventure game fans.

As an old fan of adventure games I just love that they are getting a new dawn with the iPhone. Sure, the best ones are just remakes at the moment, but I think we'll get some new classics down the road as well.
But I'm just as pleased for a long time if we could get a couple of more Lucasarts classics and some of Sierras greatest hits.

Grim Fandango would be fantastic! I'd forgotten all about that game. Don't think I even finished it first time round!

I'd also love to see Day of the Tentacle, Sam n Max and the Discworld games. These classics work so well on the platform I just want to see more adventure games coming to the App store soon!
