Stick Stunt Biker is about something we all went though as kids: trying not to fall off your bike. Unfortunately, the hero of the game doesn’t have a parental unit holding onto his seat to keep him steady. Instead, he’s faced with a brutal obstacle course that’s likely to spill him onto his face.
Stunt games in which you navigate treacherous terrain to get from point A to point B aren’t anything new on the App Store. Games like Moto X Mayhem, Alpine Crawler World, and JellyCar 2 have been there and done that. So surely this game must bring something new to the table… right?
Not exactly. The goal of Stick Stunt Biker is to control the speed and tilt of your biker as you try to guide him safely to the end of each level. To do this, you touch the screen to accelerate and tilt your iPhone to steady him. It’s pretty basic, and it controls just fine. If you’re feeling showy, you can perform tricks when you’re in the air, but the tricks are very limited.
Always wear your helmet.
There’s no minimap, so the only way to know what kind of obstacles you’re coming up on is to replay the level, which you will do often because you’ll crash often. When you replay a level, the ghost of your last attempt rides along with you on the track, which would be fine except that you can’t turn it off. Also, 10 short levels are all you get with the game, which seems stingy.
But wait, that’s not all: Stick Stunt Biker houses several other curiosities and annoyances beyond these. When you complete a level, you can’t simply hit a button to move on to the next one. You have to go back to the main menu and press the ‘new game’ button to get back to the level select screen. And each level has checkpoints, but they don’t do anything. You don’t restart from them if you crash, so we’re not sure why they’re there in the first place.
In other words, the Stick Stunt Biker plays decently, but it has some fairly large issues keeping it from being a title we can recommend. Moto X Mayhem is a very similar game, but with more content and a better UI. If the appealing doodle graphics of this game grab you, be sure to try out the Lite version before opening your wallet.
