This week on the podcast, we talk about two major developments in iPhone land: The release of GTA: Chinatown Wars to critical and popular acclaim, and the growing speculation about Apple’s big announcement this Wednesday. We dive into both of these topics at length, plus talk about a few other games we’ve been playing. Shownotes and links after the jump.
Wow, this game. Unique mechanic, beautiful visuals, amazing story, it’s quite a journey. Old Man’s Journey is a point and click adventure with a unique hill-shaping mechanic and no instructions or text. It works well in this game as the player figures out the very emotional journey the old man takes and how to take him on that journey. If you enjoy a good story, games as art, or point and click adventures, put this at the top of your must play list.
Beholder is a dark game. And it can be really dark. It’s a game about surveillance, choices, and consequences. In the (possibly not so) distant future surveillance is the norm and the player is a state-appointed monitor of that information. The player is the manager of an apartment building who has been assigned by the state to monitor the residents. The choices made in the game have direct impact on the tenants of the building, if the info is reported. And that’s the main choice in the game. We done, compelling, and voyeuristic and sadistic fun.
