Shin Megami Tensei Released, But It’s In Japanese

The original Shin Megami Tensei, a Japanese RPG that originally came out in Japan in 1992, has just been released in the U.S. for the first time ever, but get this: The game’s text is in Japanese, making it virtually unplayable to people who can’t read Japanese. The Shin Megami Tensei series is perhaps best known for its sequels and spin-offs, like Persona 4, Nocturne, and the Devil Survivor series.

The iOS version, which appears to be based on a Game Boy Advance port that came out later in Japan, costs a hefty $13.99. It also sports an ugly set of controls that occupies over half the screen. So the overall package is pretty far from ideal for U.S. gamers.

With such a small potential audience, we’re not sure why they even bothered releasing this game here. We just hope they’re working on an English translation, because it would be great to finally be able to play the game that spawned so many critically acclaimed, popular titles.
