Most of us have already realized the pleasure of building up our own little worlds through Minecraft, but recent statistics have brought another fact into the light: We’re especially enthusiastic about mucking around with Minecraft while we’re on the go, or on the john. According to numbers released by Mojang, Minecraft sold like square hotcakes during Christmas, and the Pocket Edition did particularly well.
“Lots of you bought Minecraft at Christmas, smashing download records all over the place,” blogged Owen Hill, Mojang’s Chief Word Officer. “The numbers are so massive that even Patrick ‘master of stats’ Geuder raised an eyebrow, and that hardly ever happens.”
According to Hill’s numbers:
-70,808 people purchased or redeemed codes for Minecraft on the PC/Mac on Christmas Day 2012. 241,845 copies were sold/redeemed during the week of the 24th through the 30th, and 4,177,843 copies were moved through the year.
– 100,416 players bought or redeemed codes for Minecraft on the Xbox 360 on the 25th. 325, 591 copies were sold during the week of the 24th – 30th, and 5,002,370 were sold through the year.
-Finally, 283,939 copies of Minecraft: Pocket Edition were sold on the 25th. 706,419 copies of the game were downloaded from the 24th through the 30th, and 5,899,727 copies were sold through the year. These numbers include iOS and Android versions of the game.
Which version of the game do you favor, young god?
