Rumor: Knights of the Old Republic Coming to iPad

The Star Wars franchise and video games grew up together, and there are dozens of Star Wars games as a result. It’s difficult to pin down a single Star Wars game as “the best one,” but BioWare’s Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) for PC, Mac, and X box is regarded as one of the greatest Star Wars titles ever produced. And if a new rumor holds true, KOTOR may be destined for iPad.

KOTOR was initially released in 2003. The game’s system is based around the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by Wizards of the Coast, and the depth of its story, dialogue, and gameplay won it critical acclaim as well as numerous awards.

A newsletter from publisher Aspyr Media hints that KOTOR may be coming to iPad. The header says “The critically-acclaimed Star Wars RPG is now on iPad,” though the body of the email promotes a Memorial Day sale for Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The cryptic header appears to be an error, so you might want to keep that in mind before you put the beers in the fridge for your reunion with HK-47. That said, Aspyr works closely with BioWare and handled the Mac port of KOTOR, so maybe we’ll hear some good news soon. IGN has reached out to Aspyr, but there’s been no response as of this writing.

Incidentally, the best Star Wars game is The Empire Strikes Back for Atari 2600.
