X2 Soccer 2010 Review

For soccer fans, this is the best time of the year. The World Cup is just around the corner, and X2 Soccer 2010 is now available on the App Store. Following the huge success of X2 Soccer 2009, this year’s iteration tries to build upon the solid foundation that already exists.

Every year loyal sports fans question if they should essentially re-buy a game they already own that promises a few new additions. Most of them do. For loyal X2 Soccer fans, the only question they should ask is how they will find the free time to play it.

Toe the line.

X2 Soccer 2010 runs phenomenally on the iPhone 3GS. We also played it on an iPod Touch 2nd Generation, and it ran just as well. But this year, X2 optimized their game to utilize the extra horsepower that the 3GS offers. Watching replays while zooming and panning the camera at the same time is as smooth as Howie Mandel’s scalp.

Another great addition is online multiplayer. Accessible via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, getting into a game is extremely quick and easy. Lag and disconnects are a non-issue based on our time with the game, as every one of our games ran like they were being played locally.

Break on through to the other side.

As if there wasn’t already enough content already, Dream mode adds even more gameplay. In this mode, you can assemble your own ‘Dream team’ by winning games, earning tokens, and then spending those tokens on scouting and buying new players.

X2 Soccer 2010 is another great step forward for X2 and their soccer franchise on the iPhone and iPod Touch. They have improved their stellar soccer game with multiple new features and improvements to the gameplay. Our only question is: How can it get any better?
