Doodle Jump: Hop the Movie Review

Angry Birds isn’t the only iPhone franchise big enough to get a movie tie-in. Doodle Jump, one of the first (and also one of the best) doodle games on the iPhone, has been infused with the movie Hop in its latest version, aptly titled Doodle Jump: Hop The Movie. In case you’re unfamiliar, Hop is a live-action-meets-CGI movie about the Easter bunny that will be released in theaters on April 1.

This being a Doodle Jump game, all you have to worry about is tilting your iDevice to make sure your bunny character lands on platforms as he bounces ever upward. Occasionally you’ll need to spit an egg at a plump, disgruntled chick, but that’s about it.

Angry Chicks.

Unlike the original Doodle Jump, however, this game is divided into levels. To beat each level, you must reach a certain height and collect the Easter egg waiting for you. Of course, just like in Doodle Jump, you’ll encounter different kinds of platforms as you progress. Some move, while others break or disappear once you jump on them. To go along with the movie’s theme, some kinds of platforms are made of jelly beans, candy hearts, and the like. Overall, we prefer the original doodle graphics to the more realistic ones found here, but that’s a minor complaint.

One more thing to mention is that not all levels are available to play right now. Since its release, one stage has been unlocked each day, with the last level set to unlock the day the movie opens. Also, we should mention that the game is free.

So if you like Doodle Jump, be sure to pick up this movie tie-in version. Even if the movie doesn’t appeal to you, the gameplay is just as fun, and the level progression adds a nice twist to the traditional gameplay.
