Cheap Shot: Gold Keeper

Have you ever worked really hard, and then just as you thought everything was finished, someone came along and ruined it? Dragons and demons live that every day, but we rarely see their side of things in fairy tales, and we rarely see the holier-than-thou peasants getting put in their place. Well, Gold Keeper gives you the other side of the story by putting you in the hooves of a demon who is protecting his gold in the middle of some dark, homey dungeon.

Stay out of my dungeon! Darn kids…

The game and its controls are very simple. There is one stick for movement and one button for attacking. Both function smoothly, though they are not accompanied by anything more fancy, like jumping, or attacking in more ways than one.

Luckily, you are about twice the size of the humans who come charging in, and it doesn’t take much to cut them down. It’s even easier to cut down the peasants, who come without weapons or armor– just empty sacks for pilfering your hard-earned gold. Every once in a while, an ultimate power or a new weapon appears, but the game keeps its arcade style simple throughout the game.

Gold Keeper’s style may be simple, but it’s unique and hilarious in a dark way. We definitely recommend picking it up, and if anyone asks you what you’re doing, just tell them you’re playing the bad guy for once. After all, is being a greedy demon really so wrong?
