Cheap Shot: Gold Keeper 2

If Gold Keeper 2 were released as a free update to Gold Keeper, it would have been regarded as a relatively minor update that many would have neglected to even download. In short, if you already have the original Gold Keeper, there is no reason to buy the sequel.

There are some minor changes, some of debatable quality, but in large part this is exactly the same game as before. There’s treasure in the middle of a square room, and little men try to steal it from you. Being the giant demon to whom the gold belongs, you have to smash them into goo. Not too complex.

Wipe the impudent swine from the world with your almighty battle hammer.

The overall formula is kind of fun for a few minutes at a time, and if you’ve got $0.99 burning a hole in your pocket then it’s worth a few minutes of your time. But as we’ve made abundantly clear at this point, you only need to buy one version.

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter which version you buy. Each has its ups and downs. We preferred the camera in the original, but the control is a bit better in the second.

If you get a giddy thrill out of smashing puny humans to pieces, and you’re the type of person who will be yelling “Hands off my gold, punk! I’m gunna smash ya!” through the entire game, then you’ll have a pretty good time. But based solely on its gameplay merits, this is a pretty drab product.
