Arcane Legends Review

Spacetime Studios has been creating a comfortable empire for itself with its ‘Legends’ series of massively multiplayer online roleplaying games (MMORPGs). They’ve done fantasy, science fiction, and horror games, only to return to fantasy with their recent release, Arcane Legends. But is the new game treading over old ground?

In some ways, yes– but only in ways that are typical of every fantasy game ever made. You play a legendary hero destined to save the land of Arlor from an evil demon. Monsters and bandits are running amok throughout the forests, hills, and undead cities, and you’ll gather amazing powers and loot as you run through the dungeons slaying everything that moves.

Arcane Legends uses the same engine as Pocket Legends, Star Legends, and Dark Legends, and Spacetime has taken advantage of that to put out a polished experience. The game runs smoothly, and it’s easy to move and fight. The details are tucked away in the menus, and a robust alert system gives you one-button shortcuts to specific quests or the inventory screen. You can spend a lot of time tweaking your character if you like, but one of the strengths of the game is that you don’t have to.

The path less traveled.

Another strength is that you can do a lot with the three basic classes. The game statistics are simple: Warriors rely on strength, rogues love dexterity, and sorcerers depend on intelligence. However, each class can be customized with eight active and seven passive skills. The skills cover the usual range of sorcerous fireballs and roguish knife attacks, but there’s enough variation that even when you’re adventuring with a character of the same class, you’re likely to be using different abilities.

You will adventure with other players a lot, which is one of the best features of Arcane Legends. The game encourages cooperative play with loose pick-up groups, which is the most efficient approach for a mobile MMORPG played in small bites. Each zone is instanced, putting together four or five players of similar level. You can form a party with one tap, which provides minor benefits of communication and experience. Even if you don’t form a party, however, the zones are small enough that players tend to clump together killing the same set of monsters. That’s easier and a lot more fun.

You also have a pet to keep you company. Pets are a major system in Arcane Legends. There are dozens of them, and you’re gently encouraged to catch’em all. Each pet provides a slightly different benefit and will battle at your side. The pet even runs about collecting loot for you!

End of the road.

Pets are also an ongoing cost in the game, since you have to sink a few hundred gold into them roughly every half hour of play, but how could any red-blooded adventurer quibble about the price of virtual electronic companionship?

The pets, skills, and party interactions give Arcane Legends a lot of depth, but it is a little short on breadth. Players are capped at level 21, and there are only three major areas in the game’s storyline. Each area has four or five zones, and an skilled party can run through an entire area in about an hour. There are also some challenging timed dungeons ‘under’ the game’s cities, but these are little more than random collections of monsters and loot.

The amount of content is reasonable for a mobile MMORPG, but don’t expect anything like the vast landscape of a World of Warcraft. That said, Arcane Legends is just the thing when you’re in the mood for a quick run through the dungeons.

Hmm spacetime censorship seems to have wiped every comment here…. still i don’t know why i was banned.

Here is the response I got from Spacetime Studios. 1, they do not ban players simply for raising issues, only for harassing behavior. I would personally advise you to be more patient and polite with them to avoid even the hint of abusive language. They said you were warned and ignored the warning, hence the ban. 2. They say that the three pets in question are being patched soon. 3. They say that purchasing IAP is a multi-step process, there is a confirmation tap you have to make to buy anything. 4. They say that they listen to their players and have a forum for customer complaints, just don’t abuse the forums or break the rules. Hope this helps.

It’s just not true, i would like u to spend 2 dollars on this game and find out for yourself how easy they made it to make a mistake that will not be refundable. I did not harass anyone on their forums i just asked about a few issues that are very reasonable to ask about if ur a paying customer.
After all these weeks they still didn’t answer any of my emails, i put in a claim with paypal to which they also don’t respond and am looking in to legal action against spacetime studios. I hate to say it but their response is full of lies, i also think that’s why they won’t answer me since i asked for copies of the offending forum post… you can’t give me what’s not there..

Anyway thanks for taking the time to answer me, really appreciate it.

      Michael.

It’s a fun little game, especially for free with options to buy stuff…people seem to expect an awful lot for a few (or no) dollars lol. Very well designed, simple to play & quick to load, perfect for a mobile mmo =]

So it seems I will not playing arcane legends anymore. My device got randomly blocked without notification or reason. Kinda funny considering all the reports and photos taken of players getting away with swearing all the time. A negative review has been implemented on google chrome and will be placed on other gaming forums that has given space time studios sparkling reviews. 1mil gold + down the drain & my 300 platinum. Whether this shouldn’t be discussed on here or not I feel I got tossed to the curb especially helping with STS with their beta app Arcane legends when it was first out. I am a long time mobile app customer with Gameloft and they don’t over look on situations like these.

Anyone that has been cheated by SpaceTimeStudios or has gone through this sort of stress, my advice to any player would be submitting a report to either rip off report, better business, or even consulting your bank of a charge back.

Report does nothing, players swear, players cheat, and they never get banned. They still remain in game unpunished. SpaceTimeStudios really do give subjective bans.

I say this is a SCAM company. Just like document, I have been banned just for raiding some major issues in one of their games, Pocket Legends. Sad to leave in this manner, and sucks to be me for paying cash per month for their games.

  • whatajoke

spacetime studio , is not a good company , there customer service will only respond if you are one who spends money, oh and thats only for there newer games the older games like pocket legends, star legends, and dark legends they get no love from the developers ,the developers tend to neglect there older games , its a shame that they do that ,whats even sadder is they have a loyal base for those games too

Dude.. this is a free game. Yeah It’s annoying when this happens, BUT have empathy for a sec and put yourself in their shoes… Imagine you work for a game company, helping players. I used to work for a game company and literally 90% of the support emails we got were from free players–people who don’t pay for ANYTHING in the game, have no intention of ever doing so, and NEVER will. There were about 25 people in particular that emailed us daily, over a span of months and sometimes years, that would just ask us how to play. Strategy and cheats. No matter how many times we would politely tell them to read the guide or go online and google it, or that our job is not to be their buddy and chat with them for hours when they didn’t actually NEED any help, they would keep on contacting us. Now I am not saying that you do that. But I am trying to make a point: We did the math and it turns out that millions of dollars are wasted on “helping” customers who will never spend one penny on the game. Why is this a bad thing? Because WE ARE NOT VOLUNTEERS! This is what we do for a living and if we spent all day helping unpaid customers then we would go bankrupt in about three minutes!!! It got to the point where we had to prioritize emails. If people email us about a problem that they can EASILY google and find the answer to, we do not answer unless they are paying us money. Then we will be more eager to help them, but again not always. Now I agree that companies should help when customers have technical problems. They should at least have a knowledgebase that customers can reference. But you see there has to be a balance.. Plus, this is a free game and you can google help for it. For free.If you don’t like it you can stop playing, with nothing wasted but your time… that is how free games work.

It is a free to play but has definitely turned into a PAY TO WIN game. Ive pumped a couple thousand dollars into this game this past year. The gear I have is barely good enough to contend in pvp with the people who pour money into buying platinum. If you decide to play this game…be warned…dont let yourself be fooled into thinking that if you spend enough money ingame you will be able to keep up. Unless you hit the lotto, or are wealthy, its really a waste of time, money, and aggravation. The decelopers or moderators of the game will also delete your forum post, or ban you if you write something that exposes how much money you spent for the VERY little pixel items in return.
