One of the unique aspects of the App Store is that it creates an environment of innovation and creativity for smaller developers to strut their stuff. Whether the games feature candy-chomping monsters or birds with tiny wings, the App store pretty much has a come one, come all attitude, which can produce some pretty terrific experiences. AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! (Force = Mass x Acceleration) from Dejoban Games is a great example of that creative energy shining through on our little devices.
You play as an unnamed base-jumper, soaring above, and diving down the sides of buildings that dot the urban-jungle that is Boston, Massachusetts. As you swoop through the games 40+ levels you’ll dodge giant fans, gangways, curious on-lookers, flying cars, and protesters. You’re awarded points for doing stunts like hugging and ‘kissing’ (bouncing off) the sides of buildings, crashing through windows with different point values, and knocking birds out of the sky.
It’s cool even if you don’t know what you’re looking at.
As you progress through the game you’ll unlock a power-glove which will allow you to give a thumbs-up to your cheering fans or flip the bird to your obnoxious protesters as you quickly fly by. You’ll also eventually get a spray-can which you can use to tag the sides of government buildings. At the end of every level your skill is rated with a 5-star system. You get a certain amount of ‘teeth’ for each star you get, and these teeth are then used to unlock new levels. You can go back and try to improve your score to get more teeth if you want, and we pretty much guarantee you’ll want to… these levels are tough. You could put this game’s icon right next to the definition of ‘split-second’ in the dictionary.
The presentation here is pretty amazing. The levels are all extremely detailed and colorful, and designed with a dizzying amount of imagination. You’ll feel like you’re diving through something straight out of the Ghost in the Shell movie. The only real problem is that sometimes things can get cluttered and confusing, which can make navigating your way down annoying at times. The soundtrack is pretty great, with a rock and techno mix that gives you a pretty jolting accompaniment to hurling yourself to your death.
It’s not suicidal if you live to tell the tale.
The controls are some of the best tilt-based controls we’ve experienced. You tilt up, down, left and right to weave yourself around the skyscrapers, and there are action buttons for using the glove and spray-can. The controls are tight, responsive, and about as close to perfect as you can get. You can change the tilt sensitivity if you want, but we found the default settings to work just fine.
AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! (Force = Mass x Acceleration) is one of the most exciting games we’ve played for the iPhone in quite a while. Virtually every nail-biting second in this game is a blast that will stimulate the pleasure centers of your brain. With amazing graphics, super tight controls, and crazy level design, this is one game that you’ll keep coming back to to get your anarchistic fix.
