Thanks to Double Fine, Kickstarter is now the trendy and hip way to fund game development. One of the latest Kickstarter projects getting a lot of buzz is Republique, from developers Camouflaj and Logan. This iOS game blends survival-horror and stealth-action gameplay. One of the reasons it’s getting so much attention is that it features talent that worked on the Metal Gear Solid series, Halo 4, and the F.E.A.R. series. Check out a video of the game below.
The Kickstarter page lists the game’s goals as:
Design a game and write a story for touch-based devices
Create an intense action game without a focus on killing
Feature a believable, non-sexualized female lead
Explore heavy topics, say something meaningful
Push cutting-edge graphics on mobile
Camouflaj founder Ryan Payton is known for his work at Kojima Productions, where he worked on Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. More recently, he was working as the narrative designer for Halo 4 at 343 Industries, but left over creative difference. Payton is popular with several videogame journalists from his time as a writer for EGM and 1Up.
As of this writing, Republique has 1,500 backers for a total of $62,925 of its $500,000 goal with 28 days to go. Any of you considering contributing to the project?
