Report: Upgraded iPhone 4G Due For April Release

We’re all used to the routine of Apple updating iPhone hardware as the years pass by, each new release quickly making the previous iteration feel like old hat. It’s the mobile equivalent of seeing your ex out with a newer, fitter guy or girl, so renewing that gym membership is suddenly not a point up for debate anymore.

By the same token, when the next iPhone comes out, many existing iPhone gamers will make the leap without question, trading in their old model before splurging on the new one. If rumors are to be believed, however, said upgrade could be coming sooner than they thought.

That’s according to a report in The Korea Times that claims that April has been earmarked for the iPhone 4G’s release. The paper quotes a ‘high ranking executive’ at Apple’s South Korean carrier KT as stating that there aren’t any hurdles blocking the phone’s release, with a launch within the first half of 2010 definitely ‘possible’.

What’s more, the same report claims the iPhone 4G will come with both a dual-core processor and an upgraded graphics engine, suggesting developers who focus on this model will have even more to play with (as much as that might antagonize those with older models). There’s also speculation that Apple will add an improved OLED display and a removable battery, just to polish things off.

Whether or not The Korea Times’ take on events will prove to be true, however, is still up in the air. Conflicting reports as to the iPhone 4G’s release suggest May might be the preferred release date, with French website stating (in French) that Apple is keen to launch it before Google launches its Nexus One follow-up.
