All Things D is reporting some unexpected news. Don Mattrick, essentially the head of Xbox, is leaving Microsoft. His destination, according to “sources close to the situation,” is a top spot at Zynga, possibly the CEO position. The announcement could be made as soon as today at the market’s close.
Certainly, Zynga is in need of a major overhaul. The mobile/social games company has been struggling very publicly for a while now, with a recent set of layoffs and disappointing financial reports over the past year as it has tried to shift its focus from social games to mobile games.
If Mattrick becomes the CEO of Zynga, the founder and current CEO, Mark Pinkus, would reportedly step down but work closely with Mattrick. Read the full article for more details.
