Let’s Golf 2 Hands-On Preview

We recently had the chance to play Let’s Golf 2, an upcoming casual golf game from Gameloft. Just like in the original Let’s Golf, the graphics in this one are cartoony, the courses are diverse, and the gameplay is stylized rather than realistic.

There’s also lot more content in the sequel than in the original. This time around there are eight characters to choose from, and each one has a unique special ability that can be earned. For instance, one character’s ability allows you to tap the screen where you want your ball to go. You can also customize each character’s appearance by unlocking clothes, caps, and golf balls as you play.

Six cartoony courses are included in the game, from icy Greenland and ancient Mexican temples, to an African safari, with wild animals hanging out on the green. Each course has 18 holes, for a grand total of 108, which is dozens more than were in the original game.

The gameplay is pretty standard for golf games, in that you choose your club, aim, and then tap an onscreen button as the power meter rises and falls, and tap again for accuracy and swing. You can also put spin on the ball as it flies through the air.

A mini-map sits in the corner of the screen to give you an overhead view of the terrain. Tapping it brings up a closer view of where you’re aiming to help you line up your shot. Gameloft says a multiplayer mode and online leaderboards are also included.

We enjoyed our time with the game. It controlled well, looked great, and felt very polished. No release date has been set, but we were assured that it will be hitting the App Store soon.
