Chess With Friends First Look

Chess With Friends is now available in the App Store for the low, low price of… free! For the first 1000 downloads, anyway. Get over there and pick it up!

Newtoy, an iPhone games studio founded by developers from Microsoft’s Ensemble Studios (Age of Empires and Halo Wars), just announced its first product: Chess With Friends.

Chess With Friends is an asynchronous multiplayer game, along the lines of socialDeck’s Social Line Connect. You can play multiple games of chess against your friends at once, and invite people to a game right out of your address book. There’s no push notification, though, so you have to log into the app to see if there’s been any new activity.

Newtoy’s website also mentions that there are multiple “With Friends” games in the pipeline; it’s not clear whether they’re going the technology platform route, like socialDeck, or if they’re keeping all the games in-house.

Chess With Friends is in the App Store Pipeline, so it should be appearing in the near future. Check out the video below to see it in action.
