Awele First Look

We just got word that Awele, an iPhone version of an ancient African board game, launched on the App Store today. You may recognize Awele by its alternate name, Mancala. Traditionally, the game is played by digging holes in the ground and transferring seeds from one hole to another, mirroring the rural traditions of the planting cycle; it may not look very complicated, but it actually requires a fair amount of subterfuge to end up with the lion’s share of seeds by the end of the game.

In any case, you can now tote the Ghanian national pastime with you wherever you go without having to get your hands dirty, courtesty of developer NICOTEAM.
