App Store Medley, Wednesday Nov. 5th

Now that we’ve got a new President, and we’ve totally exhausted our stockpile of champagne and cigars, it’s time for another App Store Medley! If you’re interested in getting your game on the show, or want to look into an affordable Medley sponsorshop, drop us a note.

Videos below in YouTube and HD!

SciFly: Dogfight

We reviewed SciFly: Dogfight earlier this week and enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. This is not a complex or full-featured game by any stretch of the imagination, but it gets the feel of aerial combat right, and that’s no mean feat. Here’s hoping future updates flesh the game out a little. Satisfy your need for speed for $2.99.

Payday Roulette

Roulette is kind of a funny choice for a casino game, because it’s so fundamentally non-interactive, but we really like what Veiled Games has done with it here. This game’s interface is beautiful, and we love the way the camera moves around the table and zooms in on the action. Take a spin for 99 cents.

Photo Hunter

If you’ve played the “Eye Spy” game in the Cartoons section of your local paper, you’ll know what Photo Hunter’s all about–you have a short time to spot the minute differences between two photo scenes. It’s a polished app, but be warned: some of the changes you’ll be looking for are very subtle. 99 cents gets you hunting and pecking.

Powerboat Challenge

Powerboat Challenge runs with the best racing games on the App Store in terms of graphics–think Raging Thunder on water, complete with lens flare effects–but its gameplay is much more tactical and deliberate than the competition, reflecting the nature of boat racing. Get your knots on for $3.99.

Shapium

Like SPiN, Shapium is an unconventional shape-matching puzzle game from Finland; you grab floating shapes and stick them in the right holes, before they collide with each other. The core concept is pretty good, but we don’t like starting from scratch every time we play. 99 cents to put the square peg in the square hole.

Strategic Assault

Hey, do you like the Command & Conquer series? So do the developers of this iPhone RTS game, evidently. It’s about time someone tried to make a proper RTS for the iPhone; Strategic Assault has some quality issues, particularly with its interface, but it’s already gotten its first update. That’s a very good sign in our book. $1.99 for a limited time.

Tap Tap Revenge: NIN Edition

We all know Nine Inch Nails rules… but how does Trent Reznor fare as the star of his own iPhone rhythm game? We like the custom interface, but we question the song selection. Where are the classics from Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral? Why are there so many instrumental tracks? And why are we being charged $4.99 when NIN originally released many of these songs for free?
