At the Tokyo Game Show keynote, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida showed off an upcoming app Sony plans to release around the launch of the PlayStation 4 later this year. The app will let you interact with your PlayStation profile, so you can do things like see your trophies, message your friends, start downloading games to your PS4, and even watch live-streams of people playing games.
The app will also act as a “second screen” for games that offer that feature. Some games, however, like Battlefield 4 and Watch_Dogs, will offer their own stand-alone apps that will have additional features. Yoshida says that smaller developers will be more likely to use the PlayStation app for second screen purposes.
The PlayStation app will be free to download, and is expected to hit the App Store sometime around the November 15 launch of the PlayStation 4.
