World of Warriors [App Store: Free] is a new battler/RPG type game from the makers of the Moshi Monsters game. A little grittier of a game for them. The game looks fantastic and has some lush graphics and animation. It is, of course, free to play.
To keep it fresh, there are daily and weekly contests for special items to use in the game. My early thoughts on the game are that it looks, sounds, and plays really well. But it’s a bit monotonous and needs something to change it up a bit. But I’m going to keep playing to see how things progress.
It’s Wednesday, and that means this week’s crop of big games will land on the App Store tonight at 11 p.m. Eastern time. The biggest game is The Sailor’s Dream, which should be a great purchase for fans of non-traditional games. For the rest of the week’s big titles, keep on reading. (more…)
There’s a genre of board game that’s based on your ability to lie as much as any other kind of strategizing. I’m talking about games like Werewolf, Saboteur, and The Resistance. Subterfuge looks like that kind of game. A new trailer starring Adam Sessler hints at the kind of manipulation that goes on behind the scenes as matches play out over the course of a week. (more…)
Whether you’ve grabbed a Day Zero edition of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, or are planning to pick up the game at some point in the future, you can hop over to the App Store right now to download the game’s free companion app. All you have to do is click here. (more…)
If you have use Apple’s Touch ID as a way to unlock your iPhone 5S or 6, your phone might not be as safe from prying eyes as one locked using only a password. That’s according to a judge who ruled that police officers can force criminal defendants to unlock their phones via fingerprint during the course of an investigation, but not necessarily via password. Once Beamdog Studios released Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II on the App Store, it wasn’t a surprise to hear that Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition wa on its way. The game has already landed on the Google Play store and PC, and is expected on iOS soon. (more…)
Doctor Who: Legacy isn’t a new game, not by a long shot. But at just about a year on the App Store now, Doctor Who: Legacy has seen regular updates. This latest update adds Tom Baker to complete the full compliment of all 12 Doctors to the game.
Doctor Who: Legacy has quickly become one of my go to games — even though I am just a cursory Doctor Who fan. It’s mix of RPG / Match-3 without any sort of energy system that actually lets a player play the game. Have I mentioned how I think energy systems are a weak fallback for game designers who don’t have any originality, but perhaps another time.
Pick up Doctor Who: Legacy (on the App Store) – it’s an actual GOOD free to play game.
There’s no excuse like a good old fashioned holiday for developers to put their apps on sale. This Halloween is no different. Some games on sale are scary or dark and twisted. Others aren’t, but don’t let that stop you from tapping the “buy” button if you’ve been waiting for a reason to add one to your collection. (more…)
The 11th annual IMGA is now accepting entries. If you are a game developer, head on over to the entry form and get your game entered. Entries are accepted through December 31st and there is no entry fee.
The IMGAs are the most prestigious awards for mobile game developers. With hundreds of entries every year, the best of the best are awarded in multiple categories that change based on the market and the entries received. I can’t overstate how much I appreciate the IMGA for what it does, bringing attention and accolades to developers in what was once a fledgling industry but has grown over the lifetime of the IMGA to become a major sector of gaming.
Full disclosure: I have been a judge for the last three IMGA and look forward to being part of this one too.
Simogo, the makers of the unique, visionary games Device 6 and Year Walk, have just announced that their next game, The Sailor’s Dream, will land on the App Store on November 6. That’s a week from Thursday, so mark your calendar. They’ve also released a new trailer and a few details, which you can scope out below. (more…)

To say Galactic Keep: Dice Battles has been in development for a while would be something of an understatement. This table-top RPG-style game was the basis of one of my early posts on this site, way back in 2009. It has cropped up a few times since, but now we have a hint that its release may not be too far away. (more…)
