I had a few moments with the upcoming Pokemon iPad collectible card game today at PAX Prime. It reminds me quite a bit of Hearthstone or Magic — but in the Pokemon world. It should be released later this year — sooner rather than later I hear. (more…)
Our first PAX 2014 preview is a Pokemon-ish creature collecting and battling RPG to be published by Kabam and under development by Undead Labs. In my time with the game today I was really impressed with the fluid 3D graphics and great animations. It’s got everything you would want in a creature collector, quests, guilds, leveling for special abilities, all that good stuff. (more…)

PAX is now upon us and with over 70,000 dedicated gamers about to descend upon Seattle, this is going to be one epic holiday weekend. It took only an hour for the show to sell out back in May, and for good reason. PAX is a 24/7 bacchanal of gaming, panels, parties, plushies, cosplay, chiptunes, karaoke, streetpassing, and donuts.
The Expo Hall is open daily, Friday, August 29 – Monday, September 1, 10am – 6pm, but there’s so much more to experience beyond the show floor. Below is just a snapshot of what’s happening, from autograph signings with industry legends to afterhours dating advice (seriously), live 70s game shows and dancing til dawn with Twitch, Wargaming, Squeenix, Destructoid, Harmonix, Bethesda, you name it.
Follow me @contentnow for all the madness, and if you’re at the show, stop by my panel, Tinder Tales and Other Wicked Ways To Get Work as a Game Writer for a chance to win awesome game swag as I interview an all-star panel from Forbes, Game Informer, Polygon, Save/Continue, Deep Silver (Metro Redux, Dead Island 2), and ArenaNet (Guild Wars 2) on how to break into the industry, build your audience, and find work that pays.
What are your top picks for PAX? Share them in the comments! After the jump you’ll see our picks for the top panels and parties for PAX Prime 2014.
Anita Sarkeesian of Feminist Frequency has released a new video that continues her series to point out tropes against women in video games. This time, the trope is “women as background decoration.” The video illustrates how frequently in games women are used as victims in an offhand way, often in sexualized situations. Due to violence, language, and nudity, the video is NSFW, so maybe wait until you get home to watch it. (more…)

Disney is really starting to pump out the Star Wars games. So far most have been a bit, well, hit or miss. This one I’m still torn on. While it’s great you can play a Clash of Clans type game as either a Rebel or member of the Empire, I’m left with a feeling that there should be more. But, I’m still building my base, will take a few more days to get a real feeling for it. And heck, it’s Star Wars, so, yeah. We’ll see. (more…)

So let’s get on with it, shall we? (more…)
Team Meat, the makers of the superb platformer Super Meat Boy, have announced yet another game that’s supposedly coming to iOS. It’s called A Voyeur for September, and they describe it as a “live action stealth game.” Watch the creep-tastic teaser trailer below. (more…)
Touch Arcade has first hands on with the new game from Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen called Swing Copters. The game looks similar to Flappy Bird, but in this one your copter is rising up as far as possible. Difficult and crazy. It will be really interesting to watch the reaction to this one — out this week on August 21st.
Then video of Touch Arcade’s hands on is embedded after the jump.
