Ouya’s Kickstarter has ended, with the company having raised nearly $8.6 million for its Android-based game console. Their original goal was $950,000, which means that it turned out to be a resounding success. It still has a long way to go, however, when it comes to competing against The Big Three console makers. It must also avoid the stumbling blocks several other Kickstarter projects have encountered even after funding was secured.
But for now they’ve accomplished several things: getting the word out about their product, securing almost $8.6 million in funding, and garnering the support of big-name brands like Namco Bandai and OnLive. As for what they need to do now to meet their March shipping date, they need to finalize the software, build the online store, finish designing the controller, and get more developers on board, for starters. It’ll be very interesting to see how it all turns out.
