OUYA Console to Hit Stores in June

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, OUYA CEO Julie Uhrman reports that the Android-based game console will hit select store shelves in June 2013. The system will be sold at Target, Best Buy, GameStop, and Amazon for $100. You can preorder an OUYA and extra controllers starting today, right here.

The OUYA (pronounced “oo-yah”), which received over $8.5 million in funding through Kickstarter last year, is a set-top box that plugs into a TV. The controller is a pretty standard game controller, but it has a screen-less touchpad in the middle of it.

The console will ship with one controller, with additional controllers available for $50. Already, over 68,000 consoles have been preordered. If you secured your OUYA by helping fund the console on Kickstarter, you’ll receive a unit in March. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until June.

Not many games have been formally announced for the system yet, but several titles have been thrown around in the press and the company’s marketing, including Minecraft, Final Fantasy III, Shadowgun, Canabalt, and Dead Trigger.
