Nominees Announced for 9th Annual International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA)

Dig up your clip-on tie and put on your least-wrinkled shirt: It’s time to list the nominees for the 9th Annual Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA). A jury consisting of 15 press and industry leaders selected 2012’s talent, which includes 57 games nominated across six different categories.

There were over 600 games submitted this year, and according to IMGA founder Maarten Noyons, they’re all notable. “This year’s submissions have been quite exceptional,” Noyons said. “We have never seen such a broad spectrum of games genres in the submissions. For two days the jury has reviewed hard core triple A games, poetic indie games, educational games and a growing number of narrative games. Developers worldwide are bringing ever-increasing standards of quality and originality to gamers across the globe. All 57 nominated games are worth exploring”.

This year’s qualifying batch of games are separated into the following categories:

Excellence in Innovation – Games that utilize technology or gameplay in new, interesting ways.

Excellence in Visuals – Games that are particularly good-looking.

Excellence in Gameplay – Titles that are as addictive as they are fun.

Excellence in Storytelling – Games with particularly engaging stories.

Best Social Games – Games that let us connect and play with our pals through social networks.

Best Serious Game – Sober titles that address a certain topic, and/or encourage learning through gaming. These titles can be focused around education, history, health, or politics.

You can also participate in the People’s Choice award by voting for your favorite game at the IMGAwards website. The winners in all six categories will be announced on March 28 in an awards ceremony held in San Francisco. The prize is one million Euros of free advertising broadcasted across Germany courtesy of German mass media company ProSiebenSat.1 Games.
