Just a quick heads-up to all you fans of third-person shooting: Mercenary Ops is now available for iOS. It’s a universal app, it’s free to play, and supposedly it works with iPhone 3GS and up. So prepare for yourself for some psycho mutant ultra-violence and download it now by clicking here.
We’ll have our full review as soon as possible, but since it’s a free game you have nothing to lose by downloading it now. Except, you know, your precious free time.
Developer Yingpei Games has just announced a great-looking first-person shooter called Mercenary Ops. The game, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Resident Evil 4, will be powered by the Unreal Engine and is expected out by the end of the month. Check out the trailer and screenshots below.
Mercenary Ops puts you in the shoes of an investigator looking into a biological crisis in a small town in Europe (*cough*Resident Evil 4*cough*). Yinpei Games promises eight levels and three bosses in the game’s story mode, as well as an endless survival mode that keeps upping the difficulty until you die.
The developer was formerly known as Epic Games China, so they have some triple-A cred to their name. And judging from the screenshots and trailer, the game looks great.
One thing has us slightly worried, however. Mercenary Ops will use what the press release called an “innovative one-finger control style,” which is unusual for a first-person shooter on iOS. However, we’ll withhold judgement until we get our hands on the game.
We hope to play the game early, so keep your eyes peeled for a hands-on preview in the coming days. They say the game is coming out by the end of the month, so you can expect it by next week.
