STP Turns One!

Slide To Play launched on September 1st, 2008, after a month-plus of frenzied labor and more than a few extremely late nights.

Parents inevitably put a lot of themselves into their children, and although they may have more specific goals in mind, the overriding hope is to see them survive… grow tall… and flourish.

Let me say that we all are very proud parents today. STP has bloomed from a tiny, unknown seed of a blog into full adulthood.

From 2008′s one-man editorial show– featuring a whopping three posts a week, if our handful of readers was lucky–we’ve moved to a full staff of skilled journalists. We’ve developed a weekly podcast and very active YouTube and Twitter feeds. We’ve been featured on the front page of iTunes, and quoted by MSNBC and the New York Post.

We’ve implemented a full redesign, and we’re still adding new features. Our coverage is in hot demand. We serve about a half-million pageviews a month. We’re growing like crazy, just like the subject we cover.

And you know what the funniest part of the whole saga is? I was even less prepared for the kind of success we’ve had than I would have been for failure.

The child is supposed to learn from the adult, but the opposite is also very true. This crazy train has dragged me through crash courses in entrepreneurship, biz dev, sales, software development, and project management– all in the space of a year. It’s been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done, and easily one of the most valuable as well.

So, thank you, everyone.

Thanks to my partners, Conor, Adam, and Jer, who have somehow put up with the insanity for a full year, and are still putting in serious hours to improve the site. There’s the call of duty; there’s above and beyond that; and then there’s what you guys have done and continue to do, which kind of defies description.

Thanks to our many editors and writers, who produce and post the best iPhone gaming content on the web, day in and day out. Andrew, Chris, Kelvin, Tim, Phil, and everyone else I can’t name in this post– you’ve turned this site into a force to be reckoned with.

The biggest thank you of all goes to our readers. As I’ve written before, we do what we do for you, first, last, and always. Without your support, STP would not exist.

On with the show. Year Two is going to be awesome.
