The man who was CEO of Apple from 1997 until just over a month ago has passed away, at age 56. Readers of this site will likely remember Steve Jobs as the man who helped bring some of our favorite technology to life, including the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
Here’s Apple’s statement on Jobs’ death:
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.
There’s not much more to add, except this: Any product as important as the iPod, iPhone, or iPad has many creators. Steve Jobs may not have been the sole inventor of these products, but he introduced them to the world, helped shape them behind the scenes, and spoke directly to their fans. We’re sure Apple will continue to innovate, but now they’ll have to do it without their biggest supporter.
