With titles like Beat Sneak Bandit and Bumpy Road under its belt, Swedish game studio Simogo has rightfully earned its reputation for excellent—and unusual—mobile games. Simogo hopes to continue its legacy of bizarre excellence with Device 6, an adventure/thriller coming to iOS later this year.
Device 6 combines narrative, puzzles, and geography to tell a story about technology and nanoscience. You play as Anna, a woman who wakes up in a castle on a remote island. You can’t remember what happened, or how you wound up there. All you remember is a nasty-looking doll. Hint: Nasty-looking dolls are never the source of good tidings.
Also, the island holds another castle that looks exactly like your new temporary home, and there appears to be a man in a bowler hat snooping around the joint.
Device 6 appears to be an interactive novel infused with gameplay elements. Simogo claims the game is inspired by a mish-mash of media and literature, including The Prisoner, works by Kafka, the Legend of Zelda series,999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, and Professor Layton. When a game carries that kind of varied pedigree, it’s hard not to be intrigued.
Device 6 comes to iOS in late 2013.
