Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve finally received official word on the release date for the iPhone version of Secret of Mana. And as an added bonus, we’ve got new screenshots for you below.
Actually, it’s more of a release window we’ve received word on. According to Square Enix’s Facebook page, the game is definitely coming by the end of the month. It’s finished, and it’s been submitted to Apple.
Considering that Apple will not be releasing any new games or updates during their annual iTunes Connect Holiday Shutdown (December 23 – 28), we’re hopeful that it will come out before then so we can have a very Mana Christmas.
If it makes you feel better, producer Masaru Oyamada says, “I swear it’s soon! I swear again IT’S REALLY SOON!!”
The iPhone is fast becoming the system to have if you’re in the market for classic Square Enix titles. They’ve just announced that the 16-bit action RPG Secret of Mana is heading to the App Store sometime this year.
Secret of Mana was originally released on the Super Nintendo in 1993. Like the Final Fantasy games of that era, it tells an epic story using colorful sprites and a top-down perspective. Instead of turn-based fighting, however, the battles occur in real time, like in the Legend of Zelda series.
This announcement, like the Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions one, offers few details, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
