RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile Launches Today

If you’ve ever wanted to design your own amusement parks, complete with stomach-churning rides and outrageous ticket prices, RollerCoaster Tycoon is the series for you. Today, Atari launched a mobile version of RollerCoaster Tycoon 4, which seems to rely heavily on in-app purchases even though you have to pay $2.99 for admission.

This mix of freemium-style gameplay and a premium price tag might be off-putting, but Atari said in their launch announcement that paying the $2.99 price up-front will grant you more than $5 of in-game currency. We just hope that for that price, the game is fun on its own without having to spend extra money or wait for your energy to recharge. We’re sure the last thing Atari wants is a repeat of the backlash against EA’s Dungeon Keeper’s mobile makeover.

  1. All freemium games give away in-game currency especially during tutorial (and later as well), so the “$5 preloaded in-game currency” is just a bad excuse for the price tag.
