Plants vs Zombies 2 Coming to iOS July 18 as a Free-to-Play Title

The plants are putting forth their heartiest leaves to gear up for another war with the zombies. According to EA and PopCap, Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time will blaze onto iOS on July 18. Now comes the news that will make you want to run onto your front lawn with a war cry on your lips: Plants vs Zombies is a free-to-play title, and it looks to be exclusive to iOS, at least for now.

The war of foliage versus the undead is too big for one yard, which is why Plants vs Zombies 2 reaches across time to bring the fight to ancient Egypt, the Wild West, and pirate-infested waters. There are dozens of new levels, new plants, and tons of power-ups that are up for sale by Crazy Dave. You can buy tools, weapons, and even plant food that supercharges your leafy darlings.

“We’re confident that players will see the love and attention we’ve put into this game,” Plants vs Zombies’ senior producer, Allen Murray, stated in a press release. “We’ve created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we’re still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch.”

Plants vs Zombies 2 is a freemium title, so power-ups will be purchasable in-game. However, according to Popcap, “Players can face every zombie and access every level in every world at no cost.”

That may not be enough to appease PC and Mac owners who would otherwise be happy to shell out a few dollars to pick up the game without enduring Crazy Dave’s panhandling.

  1. Freemium. Great, my 4 year old is gonna get lost in submenu’s trying to take her money instead of playing the game and enjoying the experience. FML
