One Million iPads Sold in First Month

Apple has just announced that it sold its millionth iPad on Friday, 28 days after the device’s release. “That’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

That is quite a feat, considering that the iPad fits into a new category of devices, not quite a laptop and not quite a mobile phone. Many potential customers of the iPad have said that they’re holding off on buying one until they figure out how they’d use it.

Developers are quickly coming up with potential solutions to that problem as, says Apple, 5,000 iPad apps were released in the first month. That’s good news for early adopters, who haven’t shied away from snatching up the available apps. The article says that iPad users have downloaded 12 million apps from the App Store and 1.5 million ebooks from the iBookstore.

As product launches go, the iPad is looking pretty healthy.
