Games aren’t the only things to get sequels. Engadget is reporting from the Consumer Electronics Show that Ion Audio is bringing out three new models of their iCade gaming peripheral. The original iCade was a miniature arcade cabinet that housed an iPad, with physical controls that worked with compatible games via Bluetooth technology. The biggest news here is that two of the new models were made for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
The first model, called the iCade Mobile, is a hand-held housing that will fit any iPhone or iPod Touch. It sports a D-pad, four face buttons, and four shoulder buttons. It even has a rotating dock that allows you to play games in landscape or portrait mode. It will cost $80 when it’s released this spring.
The new iCade for iPad is essentially the same as the original, but with a more modern form factor. Gone is the wooden arcade housing, and in its place is what essentially looks like an arcade game pad you might buy for a console fighting game, but with a slot to place your iPad.
The last model is called the iCade Jr., and it’s a miniature version of the original arcade cabinet-style model, but shrunken down to fit the iPhone and iPod Touch. We haven’t tried it out, but judging from the looks of it, it won’t be quite as comfortable in your hands as the iCade Mobile.
