Confirmed: Knights of the Old Republic Coming to iPad

The time has come, young padawan. You can finally download Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on your iPad right here. It’ll set you back $9.99, which isn’t so bad for an RPG classic. Maybe take tomorrow off and have a very nostalgic long weekend?

The force was with us all along. Last week gave rise to a rumor that the classic BioWare RPG Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is coming to iPad. Truth, it is.

Word got around about a possible KOTOR iPad port when publisher Aspyr flubbed a mass email. The header for the email mentioned that “The critically-acclaimed Star Wars RPG is now available on iPad,” but the body of the email talked about Memorial Day game sales. Most game sites figured Aspyr’s email referred to KOTOR, since the roster of awesome Star Wars-related RPGs is a bit lacking otherwise.

There’s no set price or release date yet, but “soon” is a good guess for the latter. IGN already has a review of the port. Verdict: It’s as awesome as a Bantha’s butt is hairy.

Look for Slide to Play’s review soon.

    • That remains to be seen. The screen size is, as you point out, a major hurdle to overcome – just looking at all those menus in the screenshot above really illustrates that fact.

However, on the FAQ regarding this game on Aspyr’s website, they answer the question of whether or not KOTOR will ever be released on iPhone/Android in this fashion: “Today we are excited to reveal and launch the iPad version of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. We have no other news to share regarding upcoming Aspyr products, but please stay tuned!”

On their Twitter page, they answer the same question like this: “Sorry, no news for iPhone or Android version at this time”.

From the tone of those answers, I’m guessing they understand that there’s an interest in seeing the game on iPhone, and the best thing to do in the meantime is keep track of their FAQ and Twitter feed. Hopefully it’ll happen.

  1. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! I just played through the Mac version for the 3rd time a few months ago. I’m definitely gonna give the ipad version a whirl!
