Cave Story Developer Announces Gero Blaster

Over the weekend Polygon reported that the maker of the platformer Cave Story has announced that his next project will be a game called Gero Blaster for iOS. The game is a retro-style action platformer along the lines of Contra, made by the Japanese developer Daisuke Amaya. Watch the trailer below.

The game looks like it was transported directly from the days of the Atari and NES, which may be enough to make older gamers grab it up just for the sense of nostalgia. But if you’ve played Cave Story, you probably know that Daisuke Amaya has some serious game making chops. Gero Blaster is set to release in May. For more information and screenshots, click here.

Yessss! Very excited for this. Glad to hear he hasn’t lost his musical chops either, this tune reminds me of a swung version of the Metroid title theme’s B section.

I never played Cave Story and it doesn’t seem to be on the AppStore anymore.
    It was good?

      It’s available on (3)DS and Wiiware, and free for PC/Mac. It’s a Metroidvania-type game, and it’s awesome.

        You had me at Metroidvania…
        I’m gonna download it now.

Hmmmmm…anyone know what the difference between the $9 AppStore/Steam version and the free version is? For Cave Story, I mean?

    • STP_Chris

The free one is the original, and it looks super retro. I think the new ones, which go by Cave Story+, have new graphics and modes and an additional level or two.

I really wish you had never told about me this game. :P
