Capcom’s 8-Bit Jetpack Shooter Dark Void Zero Coming to iPhone

According to an official Capcom blog post and press release, an 8-bit prequel to sci-fi shooter Dark Void will be coming to the iPhone and PC on April 12.

Dark Void was released last January for home consoles, and it features a jetpack-wearing hero battling aliens in duck-and-cover style gameplay. The retro prequel, Dark Void Zero, was released in January for the Nintendo DS, and is humorously purported to be a “lost” NES game.

As you can tell from these screens for the DS version, Dark Void Zero is modeled after classic Nintendo shooters like Mega Man and Bionic Commando, both of which are also Capcom properties.

It seems to us like Capcom is hoping to make gamers think they had actually played Dark Void back in the 1980s, even though it’s brand new series. Is Capcom trying to implant “suggested memories”? Or do gamers just love all things retro? We’ll let you know when we have a review copy in hand.
