Big Game Night: Table Top Racing, Pixel People, and More

We love Wednesday nights best of all, because that’s when the week’s biggest games hit the App Store. At the stroke of 11pm EST tonight, iOS gamers will be able to download two very different racing games, an addictive freemium city builder, and a pyro sim unlike anything you’ve ever played. Read on for descriptions of the games and New Zealand App Store links, which will direct you to the US App Store after the games launch at 11pm EST.

Pixel People

Don’t let the cute retro art style fool you: Pixel People takes place after planet Earth has been destroyed and humanity wiped out. It’s your job to clone a bunch of humans and create a functioning society in space. To do that, you need to splice your clones together to create new jobs and build a city to house your happy clones. It’s kind of like a mix between The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Doodle God, but the two combine to create something that feels fresh.

Table Top Racing

Made with the help of a co-creator of the Wipeout series, Table Top Racing pulls inspiration equally from Micro Machines and Mario Kart. But don’t let the toy-sized cars fool you: they come packing heat. This is a game of vehicular combat, with 10 cars, high-powered weapons, eight tracks, and six gameplay modes. You can play alone or online over Game Center.

SlotZ Racer 2

When you were a kid, you might have had a slot car racing set. These consist of a track you can piece together in any shape you want (including loops and up walls) and several cars that fit into slots in the track. If you control your car’s speed correctly your car stays on the track. Take a sharp turn too fast, and you go flying off. SlotZ Racer 2 offers the same thing in videogame form. You can build your own tracks, share them online, and race cars around them. We loved the first SlotZ Racer when it came out in 2009, and are hoping the sequel is even better.

Little Inferno

Little Inferno is a unique game from the makers of World of Goo and Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. In it, you purchase toys and toss them into a fireplace to keep warm and watch them burn. This gives you more coins that you can use to buy more toys to burn. Need we say more? It’s a strange and wonderful game that’s already been released on the Wii U and PC. Tonight you can cozy up to a fire and play it on your iPad.

  1. Little inferno, Ipad only. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Had me fall in love with the game only to tear it away from me.

  2. Feeling a little indie deprived here. Been weeks since my Under the Radar fix. Must be some game out there that deserves a lil lookin into.
