Big Game Night: Street Fighter X Tekken, Lunar Silver Star Story, and More

With the impending launch of the iPhone 5, some of the week’s major new games, which we’d normally expect tonight, launched a bit early. This includes Capcom’s Street Fighter x Tekken, Square Enix’s Demons’ Score, and Ubisoft’s Rayman Jungle Run. The rest are now on the New Zealand App Store, and you can follow the kiwi link to download them after 8pm PST when they launch in the United States. Click ahead for this week’s biggest releases!

Street Fighter X Tekken Mobile

In our hands-on preview earlier this week, we took you through this crossover fighter’s roster and combat features. Now that the game is available, we can start battling online! This fighting game lets you pick two characters at a time– one main fighter, and one backup fighter who can only tag in for short periods of time. Unlike the last few Street Fighter games, this one is rendered in full 3D.

Demons’ Score

Square Enix’s Unreal-powered, music-based shooter is an odd one. It plays a bit like Elite Beat Agents, but you have to time your taps on the screen to engage in machine-gun battles with demons. The main character, a punky college girl, discovers a talking teddy bear who tells her he used to be a human. Soon after, she’s forced to fight demons to find her missing father. We’re not quite sure what’s going on in this story, but we enjoyed the frantic action when we played this game at E3, so it might be worth the $6.99 download price.

Lunar Silver Star Story

Those with a fondness for classic Japanese role-playing games might remember the Sega Saturn title Lunar Silver Star Story from 1996. Or you might have played it when it was ported to the original PlayStation or GameBoy Advance. True to JRPG tradition, Lunar Silver Star Story tells the tale of a boy from a small village who goes out on a quest and ends up saving the world. So if you feel like diving into a long, gorgeous retro-RPG, this is one to consider.

Hotel Transylvania Dash

If you like Playfirst’s line of Diner Dash games, and you’re looking forward to the animated movie Hotel Transylvania, Hotel Transylvania Dash is a perfect example of what we like to call marketing synergy. You have to house vampires, werewolves, mummies, and other monsters, tending to their needs as guests. This is a free download with in-app purchases, so it might be worth checking out if you need something to do while you’re waiting in line for popcorn.

Rayman Jungle Run

When Rayman Origins hit consoles last year, it gave new life to the classic platforming franchise. Ubisoft has taken the same gorgeous art style and side-scrolling gameplay and brought them to iOS. The difference is that the game was built from the ground up for the touchscreen. Your character runs automatically through the levels here, and it’s your job to jump, helicopter, and punch your way through the levels, collecting all the “lums” you can get your hands on. Read our full review for details, and download the game now if it sounds like your kind of crazy.

Lili

This adventure/ RPG was first introduced to the world back at Apple’s WWDC keynote this year, and it’s a looker. Made by BitMonster, it tells the tale of a girl named Lili who goes exploring on an island called Geos. She meets lots of quirky locals, solves puzzles, and engages in something called “non-combat” to dispatch enemies. It looks like a kid-friendly adventure game, and it’s run by the powerful Unreal Engine.
