Big Game Night: Rock Bandits and Super Stickman Golf 2

It’s Wednesday, which is usually the best night to find big new games on the App Store. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of exciting new games from big developers tonight, but we found a few that might interest you. Read on for your New Zealand App Store links, which will direct you to your local App Store once the games fully launch at 8pm Pacific in the US.

Rock Bandits – Adventure Time

As big fans of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time series, we’ve been waiting for a quality iOS game starring Finn and Jake. We’ve had mixed results with previous games like Legends of Ooo and Fionna Fights, so hopefully Rock Bandits will appeal to both younger and older players. Wired Magazine had an exclusive preview of the game, where they reveal that it lets you use onscreen swipes to slash at enemies while Finn runs automatically through each level.

Super Stickman Golf 2

The incredibly popular Super Stickman Golf finally gets a full sequel tonight. Though the series has simple controls and a plain visual style, the courses have a lot of variety and the power-ups make it feel more like an action game than a sports sim. This sequel also includes two multiplayer modes: Turn-based, where you and a friend can take turns trying to complete a course, and race mode, where you have to try to sink your ball in the cup before anyone else.

Stargate SG-1: Unleashed Ep. 1

If you’re a big follower of the sci-fi Stargate universe, you’ll probably want to learn more about the new iOS game launching tonight. This appears to be an episodic adventure game in the style of Telltale’s Walking Dead or Jurassic Park games, with a heavy emphasis on action and some very impressive 3D graphics. We’ll let you know more after we get a chance to try it ourselves.

Ridiculous Fishing

The indie developers Vlambeer admitted in a recent blog post that when their game Radical Fishing was cloned on iOS by another developer, it put them all in a funk. Though it’s been a long wait, their original Flash concept is finally getting an official iOS port in Ridiculous Fishing. You play as a fisherman who has to steer his line to the bottom of the sea, and then pull up as many fish as possible for a high score. We’ll compare Ridiculous Fishing to its clone, Ninja Fishing, in our review later this week.

    • You’re right– I’ve updated the list with Stargate and Ridiculous Fishing (which is not on the NZ App Store, but is still due to launch soon). I’ll have to look more into Galactic Conflict!
