Big Game Night: Final Fantasy VI and More

As usual, Wednesday is Big Game Night on the App Store. A number of promising games are set to hit the U.S. at 11 p.m. Eastern time, including one of the best RPGs ever made. So take a look below and plan your purchases now.

Modern Command

With Modern Command, Chillingo brings us a free-to-play strategy game that, despite its generic name, looks kinda cool. You have to protect your base, complete missions, and do all manner of war-like things in a great-looking 3D world. We’ll have to wait for it to come out to see if it all holds together.

Eliss Infinity

The original Eliss was a crazy-tough action puzzle game. You use multiple fingers to move planets around on the screen, fusing them together and pulling them apart, all in a quest to keep different colored planets from touching. This release includes updated graphics, new modes, new music, and more.

Final Fantasy VI

Square Enix is bringing one of the best games of the 16-bit era to iOS tonight. Some people aren’t happy with the graphical overhaul it has received, but even if it was presented in stick figures, this game would still be worth playing.

Galcon Legends

This ain’t the first Galcon game to land on the App Store, but it’s a series we love. This re-introduction comes with 23 single-player missions designed to show you how to fight off enemies and take over galaxies.

Naughty Kitties

A curious mash-up between an endless runner and a tower defense game, Naughty Kitties looks like some kind of adorable fun. In it, you use drag-and-drop controls to have kittens fend off an alien invasion as they flee to their space ship. Sounds like it’s worth checking out to me.

Threes!

Threes is a puzzle game involving math from the makers of Puzzlejuice. That might not sound like much fun, but that’s what we thought of before it took control of our lives.

Toast Time

English breakfast and chaos don’t usually go together in the same sentence, but Toast Time brings both. You play as a pixelated toaster, fending off enemies with breakfast food. Sounds silly and it looks nuts.
