Big Game Night: Fetch, Order and Chaos Duels, and More

Have you ever wanted to peer into the future? Today, if you look at the New Zealand App Store, you’ll get a glimpse at the new games that are launching tonight in the US and worldwide. That’s how we put together tonight’s list of big new games from Gameloft, Big Fish Games, Bulkypix, and more. Read on for your early Kiwi links, and buy them in the US App Store after 8pm PST.

Fetch

Big Fish Games’ newest adventure is so artistic that it earned a place in Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry. In addition to being one of the locations in the game, the real-world MOHAI has an exhibit showing off the making of Fetch. Fetch is a Pixar-like animated adventure that uses a combination of point-and-click puzzle solving and arcade minigames to tell a great story. There’s a lot of gorgeous detail in the interactive environments, and the animation and character design are some of Big Fish’s best work yet.

Order & Chaos Duels

If you’ve played Gameloft’s MMORPG Order & Chaos Online, or their MOBA Heroes of Order & Chaos, you know that the series features great artwork and imposing characters. Tonight, Gameloft is launching their first trading card game (or TCG), where you have to place cards on a board to generate magical attacks against your enemy’s army. It’s a free download, and the artwork is a lot of fun just to look at, so give this one a download if you’re a fan of card games like Rage of Bahamut.

Abalone

Abalone is an easy-to-learn board game using black and white marbles. With a push, you can arrange the position of marbles on the board and try to knock your opponents to the edge. Only larger groups of marbles, up to three, can push around smaller groups of marbles. Abalone has been a favorite on our real-world game shelf for years, so it’s great to have a virtual version. Bulkypix has even added Zen-like music and sound effects to make the clacking of marbles feel even more soothing.

The Wizard of Oz Game

Movie copyright lesson time! It turns out that the new movie in theaters, Oz The Great and Powerful, was made by a different studio (Disney) than the original creators of 1939′s The Wizard of Oz (MGM). So while you can download a Temple Run clone starring James Franco’s Wizard character, there was no Judy Garland singing Under The Rainbow on iOS– until now. The Wizard of Oz Game from Warner Bros. features movie and audio clips from the original film. In the game itself, you’ll have to rebuild Munchkinland in order to repair the Yellow Brick Road and begin your quest for the Wizard.

Kingpin Lanes

You might have heard about the last two games from Speedbump Studios: Dream:scape, a haunting and atmospheric adventure game, and RobotGladi8or, a sci-fi first-person fighter. Their latest is an Unreal-powered 3D bowling game, where you can explore every inch of a wonderfully-rendered bowling alley. You can spend virtual currency in the arcade, wager other bowlers, and buy new balls in the Pro Shop. As far as sports sims go, this is one of the better-looking ones we’ve played on iOS.

Snoopy Coaster

Chillingo and CGMatic, the makers of Madcoaster, have a new roller coaster game out tonight starring characters from the Peanuts comic strip. Snoopy Coaster plays a lot like Madcoaster, but with new power-ups and Peanuts-themed collectibles. It looks cute, and we enjoyed Madcoaster’s ridiculous tracks and screaming riders, so we’re hoping this is a decent tie-in. We just hope Charlie Brown doesn’t decide to ride this coaster after gorging on funnel cakes at Snoopy’s Street Fair.
