Wednesday may be called “hump day” in some uncivilized parts of the world, but around here it’s known as Big Game Night. Wednesday night is when major developers release their games on the App Store in hopes that Apple will give them a coveted feature slot tomorrow. Escape from Doom

In this endless runner/first-person shooter, you play as a treasure hunter who has to escape from a crumbling tomb. Unfortunately for you, your path is filled with mummies and other enemies that want to keep the treasure for themselves. Collect emeralds to upgrade your weapons. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Dragon’s Lair 30th Anniversary

Sure, this lovable cartoon game was already available on iOS, but this new version is optimized for all the iOS devices that hadn’t come out yet when the original was released. It would’ve been nice if they’d updated that game for free, but even if you re-buy it you’ll still end up spending less than if you tried to beat it in the arcade back in the ’90s.

Random Runners

Ravenous Games may be something of a one-trick pony with their seemingly endless supply of action platformers, but it’s a cool trick. Random Runners lets you play as characters from Random Heroes in both pre-made and endless levels. Choose a character, pick a weapon, and have at it.

Type:Rider

I’m always up for a unique game concept, especially if it has to do with writing. Type:Rider is a side-scrolling platformer that puts you in the shoes of two dots who explore the history of writing, from rock paintings to pixel art.

Drift Mania: Street Outlaws

Like previous installments of the series, this game makes you an illegal racer, traveling from city to city to compete in underground drift-based events. The game comes with 21 upgradeable cars, 13 tracks, and a handful of achievements. If you like drifting around corners, this is one to check out.

    Wha? Dragon’s Lair was too buggy to finish when it was released a few years back on iOS. Now they updated it and want me to buy it again? Apple shouldn’t allow this. Kind of a D move. Then again so are HD versions of apps…
